The 14th edition of the South East European Film Festival (SEEfest) will be the proud recipient of a festival grant from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), home of the Golden Globes. SEEfest was awarded the grant for the 2019 festival, running May 1-8 in Beverly Hills and West Hollywood.

Established in 1943, the Los Angeles-based Association of foreign journalists is well known for its charitable giving focused on film preservation, fellowships, major film retrospectives and support for a robust and free press, among others. Festival Grants are given to Los Angeles-based foreign language film festivals. The HFPA Charitable Trust is the philanthropic arm of the HFPA. Funding for HFPA Fellowships and Grants is derived from HFPAís income from the Golden Globe Awards. In the past 31 years, the HFPA Trust has bestowed more than $29 million in fellowships and grants to film schools and non-profit organizations.

“We are greatly honored by this recognition and grateful to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for supporting festivals that bring foreign language films to Los Angeles,” said Vera Mijojlić, founder and artistic director of SEEfest. “This grant will help us provide mentorship for innovative projects and workshops for South East European filmmakers, and expand marketing to local film aficionados, educators, film scholars and youth audiences, introducing them to cinematic gems from 18 South East European countries covered by the festival.”

Grants are directly linked to SEEfest’s strategic goal to provide to Los Angeles audiences greater access to foreign language films, and promote South East European cinema through annual festival, major retrospectives and cultural exchange.
