Tis The Season For Charanga And Salsa By The SeaMarina Del Rey- It is my hope that you had a wonderful, relaxing Thanksgiving, where you were able to count your Blessings; good health, loving family and a contingent of friends to name a few.
Join me as I add a couple more reasons to be Thankful. Beautiful Southern California weather so that you can enjoy a variety of activities outdoors. One has to be thankful for the amazing concert series at Fisherman’s Village in Marina Del Rey. Greater Los Angeles Salseros are always giving thanks when they can get together to hear live music and to dance til their hearts content.

Saturday, November 25, 2017 encompassed all of the above. The Fisherman’s Village was the place to be on this bright, sunny afternoon. The entertainment was provided by Fay Roberts’ Orquesta Charangoa. This tight band thrilled the crowd with several sets of charanga in the tradition of the classic Cuban style dance orchestras from their critically acclaimed CD’s Fay Roberts Y Su Orquesta Charangoa and Lo Que Quiero Es Charangoa.

Upon careful review, one might think of Orquesta Charanga as a salsa band. However, the authentic genre is charanga. A dance floor wasn’t needed as the contagious sounds of charanga and salsa provided the soundtrack to groove and move in the intimate, quaint courtyard of the food court.
Orquesta Charangoa has been performing regularly throughout the greater Los Angeles area since 1997. The group is led by classically trained flutist Fay Roberts, Orquesta Charangoa follows the traditional style of early popular Cuban dance orchestras. The band consisted of Fay Roberts-leader/flute and sax, Fermin Sinfontes-piano, Luis Alba-congas/vocals, Tony Alba-guiro/vocals, Jonathan Pintoff-bass, Alfred Ortiz-timbales/vocals.
