RALLY HELD FOR Romulo AVELICA-GONZALEZ, A DAD DETAINED BY ICE WHILE DROPPING KIDS OFF AT SCHOOL
On Monday March 6, a rally pulling over a hundred people was held in solidarity with the family of Romulo AVELICA-GONZALEZ, a 48 year old undocumented immigrant who is currently detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as he dropped his children off at school last Tuesday.
Surrounded by a community of friends and school mates was his 13 year old daughter Fatima who captured his arrest on video. Too distraught to speak Fatima and her family’s voice was echoed by one of her siblings who spoke bravely about their family’s ordeal and expressed gratitude for the support of the community.
“My dad is very strong and that’s why we are here. To be strong for him, and as a community we can do big things,” she said.
Speaking for the family also, attorney Emi McLean called the action by the Trump administration shameful, a sentiment that was echoed by many present.
Speaking to the crowd all in attendance from family, to school representatives, faith leaders and community leaders urged ICE agents to be more compassionate in their duties and to release this father to his family in the United States.
