Magazine, The Immigrant Experience
At CNPA’s CapCon 2023, Alexandra Close, fondly known as Sandy, was honored with a journalism award for her tireless work as the founder of Ethnic Media Services. For decades, Sandy has been a champion for ethnic media and their crucial role in serving their communities on pressing issues such as disparities, immigration, healthcare access, and hate. During her acceptance speech, she emphasized the power of unity among ethnic media, saying “When ethnic media comes together, they are a fist.”
CapCon 2023 brought together publishers, editors, and government and social behavior experts to address the declining public trust in mainstream media and explore solutions. Sandy’s presence and recognition served as a reminder of the important contributions made by ethnic media in providing vital information to diverse communities.
