HOLLYWOOD – Son of Oakland Productions, 68th & Star Productions, and Luna Ray Films are set to world premiere a new short film, My Father Belize, at the HollyShorts Film Festival in Hollywood California. Leon Lozano (Something Is Killing Tate) directed the film, which shot on location in Belize Central America, featuring a majority Belizean cast and crew. The script was written by Lozano and Ron Oscar Sierra (The Perfect Family). And the film was produced by Lozano, Sierra, and Jessica Funches, alongside Mr. Nigel P. Miguel who is the current Film Commissioner of Belize. The film stars Arlen Escarpeta (The Oath), Roger Guenveur Smith (Frederick Douglas Now), Kisha Sierra (Inhale), and newcomers Kerby Garcia and Kodie Tucker.
My Father Belize is the story of a US born Belizean man who travels to Belize to scatter the ashes of his deceased father, only to discover that he himself conceived a son during a past visit to the country. He must now face his own conflicted feelings about fatherhood caused by the estranged relationship he had with the man who gave him life.
“We are family–cousins–both of us born in the United States to parents who are immigrants from Belize Central America. For both of us, Belize holds a special place in our hearts. Throughout our lives we have both traveled to Belize, learning more about who we are, building and maintaining connections with family and our culture. Our passion for our heritage, the beauty of our homeland, and the stories of its amazing people are what we share with you through this film and in future films to come,” said Lozano and Sierra regarding what inspired the film.
The HollyShorts premiere of My Father Belize takes place at 5pm on Saturday August 17, 2019 at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres in Hollywood California. The film trailer currently can be viewed here:
