The South African Consul-General, Ms. Thandile Sunduza on September 28, 2022, hosted a dinner reception to welcome South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Her Excellency Naledi Pandor, and to celebrate South Africa’s Heritage Day. Hosted at the Griffin Club in Los Angeles California, the celebration honored the work of South African Musician Solomon Linda and all indigenous music of South Africa. Solomon Linda is known to have exposed the art of indigenous music in South Africa. His song Mbube went on to become a pop hit, ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’. Unfortunately, he died without receiving royalties for his work.
Special remarks were made by Her Excellency Naledi Pandor who exalted South Africa’s freedom of cultural expression and emphasized “unity in diversity” as a tool for harmony. Guests included members of the diplomatic corps, South African dignitaries, and friends of South Africa.
