This year, kids in LA will get a chance to really visit Wakanda (sort of). African Soul International, a nonprofit arts and education organization that specializes in the arts of the Black experience, will host a 5-day Culture Camp in which students ages7-17 can learn real drumming, dancing, history, songs and culture! The camp is conveniently occurring March 26-30, while LAUSD and many surrounding districts are on Spring Break. The camp will be held at Motherland Music, 601 Eucalyptus, Inglewood, CA 90302.

African Soul International has a special relationship with the Marvel blockbuster, as five of their drummers were on the actual soundtrack. This camp is not new, they started these intervention camps back in 2005, while in Ohio working with foster care youth. Thanks to generous supporters, the camp is only $99 for a week of activities, culminating with a final performance and each child going home with their own handcrafted drum! The camp runs from 8-5 daily, before and after care are available. There’s still time to sponsor a child’s tuition, contact African Soul International directly at: 855.451.SOUL (7685).
