The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has released its first Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) Strategic Plan for 2023-2026. This plan represents the agency’s commitment to promoting a culture of DEIA principles in its daily work, consistent with the USCIS core value of championing people and its recent strategic plan. The plan includes six primary goals, which focus on leadership engagement, diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and maintaining a safe and respectful workplace. The USCIS recognizes that it is important to commit to these principles for its workforce, given that the agency interacts with and welcomes individuals from all over the world into a nation that values diversity and equal opportunity. The DEIA Strategic Plan is the result of collaboration among employees from across the agency, including union partners. Focusing on DEIA in the workforce is also a government-wide priority, as evidenced by President Biden’s Executive Order on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in the Federal Workforce.
