The Black Medical Education Equity Taskforce is a statewide initiative established by a group of Black medical professional associations, community organizations, medical schools, medical student groups, social justice and health care equity organizations that work together on challenges and finds solutions to increase the number of Black Medical Students, particularly Black male students in medical schools across California. The Taskforce is created in collaboration with medical school administrators and faculty, medical student groups, professional associations, and civil rights and immigrant justice organizations.

The mission of Black Medical Education Equity Taskforce is to promote racial justice and aspires to dismantle racial inequity in medical school admission and advocate for allocation of academic resources and address institutional barriers to access medical schools.

U.S. Africa Institute’s Black Medical Education Equity Taskforce is committed to dismantling structural racism and increasing diversity in medical education and the physician workforce

The Taskforce will support medical schools across California to increase admissions of Black students, create awareness among historically excluded and marginalized groups, particularly Black male students of pathways to medicine, and raise awareness among medical school administrators and faculty of the systemic barriers which hinder Black students, particularly Black male from accessing medical school admission.

The project is funded by The California Wellness Foundation. Cal Wellness’ vision is for every resident of California to enjoy good health and experience wellness. Cal Wellness’ mission is to protect and improve the health and wellness of the people of California by increasing access to health care, quality education, good jobs, healthy environments and safe neighborhoods.
