Worldwide Film Festival Premieres To open the festival

LOS ANGELES, CA – The GARIFUNA INTERNATIONAL INDIGENOUS FESTIVAL OF LOS ANGELES (GIIFF) announced today its 2016 lineup of narrative and documentary features, short films, and galas for its 5THh annual festival. Opening the festival on May 26, 2016 are two films by Director Marcello Thedford, Sins Of The Guilty and Detainment.
About this year’s festival
Standing out among the packed film festival circuit as a respected cultural ambassador among people from the Caribbean, and indigenous communities, the Garifuna International Indigenous Film Festival (GIIFF) is returning to Venice for its 5th annual event this coming May. Founder, Executive Director and Garifuna indigene, Freda Sideroff, is excited and honored to once again be able to showcase a wide range of films and documentaries created by noteworthy cultural activists, Garifuna filmmakers, Caribbean, and other indigenous people. Included in the program are submissions from international filmmaker Alex Munoz (Escape, Catnip Fever, Duendes Gone Bad), Vietnamese Emmy Award-winning director Duc Nguyen (BOLINAO 52, STATELESS), VICE and Al Jazeera video journalist Jesse Freeston (RESISTENCIA: THE FIGHT FOR THE AGUAN VALLEY), International Hollywood actor/producer/director Marcello Thedford (ER, The Game, Sons of Anarchy, Shameless, Southland), and Academy Award-winning producer/screenwriter, Victoria Mudd (Broken Rainbow), among others.

About GIIFF
The GIIFF was founded in 2012 with a mission to preserve the values and aspirations of all indigenous people and Garifuna cultures. Founded by Freda Sideroff an indigene of the Garifuna, the GIFF’s mission is to specifically support the preservation of all indigenous cultures in the world through art and film.
An annual event where leaders and members of the community are recognized for their contributions to the betterment and elevation of the dignity of humanity, GIIFF showcases a variety of films and documentaries created by Garifuna filmmakers as well as by many other indigenous people including feature films & short films as well as panel discussions, workshops and cultural presentations. It is equally an annual venue that reconciles, entertains and portrays the very diverse and brilliant cultures to participants of the festival.
At a time when Western civilization is struggling with global problems, the GIIFF showcases important lessons to be learned from indigenous cultures such as interconnectedness, wisdom of our elders, sustainable living and how to live in harmony with nature.

Summary: Vanessa Johnson movies out on her own. She doesn’t know how difficult the world is going to be. When a charming fashion photographer entices his way into her new apartment and as her new love interest. Vanessa never dreamed how foul love could be.
When her lover turns up dead, a spiral of suspicion unravels; and we start our journey to uncover the Sins of the Guilty.

Summary: An everyday expatriate family living abroad is brutally invaded and detained in their home by terrorists. Blood and mayhem follow as these sociopaths battle each other. The entire family is emotionally and physically traumatized across the city. Innocent children are not excluded from this horror. The bond between a father and daughter are tested and tried – love always prevails.
