Los Angeles, CA — 12 HOURS, a chilling psychological horror short from writer-director Mohamed A. Bere, is set to begin its festival run, delivering an immersive exploration of fear, vulnerability, and survival. The film’s official poster art and trailer have been unveiled today.

Executive produced by SB Productions’ Somalian-American co-founders Sharmarke Mohamed and actress-producer Eve Richards, the film stars Mimi Dybs (The Carson Cases), Hettie Lynn Hurtes (Queen Mom RulesThe Terminator), and Reid Schmidt.

The film follows Emily, a desperate young caregiver who accepts a 12-hour shift at an isolated home owned by the seemingly warm yet deeply unsettling Ms. Maple. Tasked with caring for her quiet, wheelchair-bound son, Eric, Emily believes she has found a routine opportunity to stabilize her life—until the atmosphere inside the home begins to shift.

Subtle disturbances give way to increasingly disturbing experiences—strange behavior, disorientation, and mounting paranoia. As Emily’s perception fractures, she realizes she may have been drugged and manipulated. Cut off from the outside world, she uncovers a horrifying truth: the house conceals a ritualistic nightmare rooted in control, psychological torment, and cannibalistic intent. With time slipping away, Emily must fight to escape before she becomes the next victim in a twisted cycle.

12 HOURS was created as an exploration of psychological horror grounded in emotional realism rather than conventional genre devices,” says Bere. “Our goal was to immerse the audience in the character’s mental state and create a world that feels as though it’s closing in around her—and I believe we achieved that.”

Produced under the SB Productions banner, the film reflects Bere’s commitment to character-driven storytelling and elevated genre filmmaking, combining grounded performances with a distinct visual language. Blending psychological tension with atmospheric horror, 12 HOURS prioritizes emotional realism over traditional jump scares. The film utilizes practical lighting, confined spaces, and tactile production design to create a claustrophobic and immersive viewing experience.

Mimi Dybs delivers a gripping performance as Emily, portraying a woman pushed to the brink of psychological collapse. Hettie Lynn Hurtes brings quiet menace to the role of Ms. Maple, while Reid Schmidt’s portrayal of Eric adds emotional complexity and unpredictability to the film’s unraveling tension.

Mohamed A. Bere is a Somalian-American filmmaker, writer, and producer whose work is driven by resilience and a passion for emotionally grounded storytelling. Born in a refugee camp in Kenya to Somali parents who fled civil unrest, Bere later immigrated to the United States, where he developed his voice as a filmmaker. As co-founder of SB Productions, he continues to craft stories that fuse emotional depth with cinematic suspense.

Sharmarke Mohamed is a Somalian-American actor, producer, writer, and entrepreneur whose creative work is shaped by his early experiences growing up during Somalia’s civil conflict. Drawing inspiration from both Bollywood and Hollywood cinema, he brings a globally influenced perspective to storytelling.

Eve Richards recently starred alongside Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding Jr., Jason Patric, and David A.R. White in the Sony Pictures film A Line of Fire. She will next appear in Straight Shot opposite Rachel Leigh Cook, Dolph Lundgren, William Forsythe, David A.R. White, and Tyrese Gibson. Richards also hosts the popular podcast The Discovery Pod with Eve.

12 HOURS explores the terror of powerlessness and the consequences of misplaced trust, delivering a haunting and visceral experience that lingers long after the final frame. Festival screening dates and details for the film’s private world premiere will be announced soon.
