The family-friendly, 3-minute film, BROWN PAPER BAG, is about an endearing, elderly California man who finds that cream rises to the top. The most frequently used adjectives by IMDb reviewers are: “joyous, sweet, heartwarming, and charming.”
While show business came to a standstill in the midst of Covid restrictions, filmmaker, Klaudia Kovács, wanted to continue working. She literally took matters into her own hands and made her “pandemic project” with her iPhone.
After having garnered 37 awards and accolades, BROWN PAPER BAG, her first short film, was brought to life with a minimum budget, cast, and crew.

Kovács is not the only one who has shot a film on a cell phone. So have Steven Soderbergh, Sean Baker, and Malik Bendjelloul.
Kovács, a previous Oscar contender in the “Best Documentary” category, is known for her multi-award-winning, feature-length Cold War non-fiction film, TORN FROM THE FLAG. She shot the movie with two of “the greatest [late] cinematographers of all time,” Academy Award winner, Vilmos Zsigmond, and ASC Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Laszlo Kovacs.
Since BROWN PAPER BAG’s success at Cannes 10 months ago, it has been
selected by five festivals and two markets. Currently, there is strong distribution interest in Kovács’ films, domestically and abroad.

BROWN PAPER BAG will be presented as part of CICFF’s “Block 2.” Tickets are available at: http://calchildrensfest.com/Tickets.html
