From October 5th to October 7th, fashion enthusiasts were treated to the first of its kind ‘Los Angeles India Fashion Week’. An event that drew designers from a wide spectrum of the Indian and South Asian communities, it was a beautiful buffet of fashion related events hosted in Little India in the city of Artesia. Culminating in a grand finale event at the Sheraton Cerritos on Sunday, October 8th from 11 am to 6 pm, models, designers and vendors from India, various US states and locals showcased the latest trends in Indian designer wear from casual, to ceremonial garments fit for royalty and a plethora of accessories to match.
Some of the notable designers on the runway included: Aanchal Designer Gallery USA, Frontier Heritage, Namaslay, Sari Palace and Voila!! By Roma Bhalla
According to its founder, Smita Vasant, Owner at Saffron Spot, a passionate community leader, the vision is not only to shine light on the beauty of Indian designs and culture but also to create a market place for new and existing designers/vendors and boutique buyers to do business with each other. Originally from Mumbai, Maharashtra, Smita sees her immigrant journey much like many others who shape cultures and set trends. A former beauty queen and winner of Mrs. Asia USA, she is not afraid to take risks and sees this first initiative as the beginning of a lifetime union of culture, business and entertainment. Partnering with many organizations notably Ziba Beauty who adorned the models with first class looks representative of each fashion show and designer, the First LA India Fashion Week was a resounding success tantamount to the likes of Los Angeles Fashion Week or New York Fashion Week. Produced however in the cultural enclave of the Indian community in the city of Artesia where you can always find everything Indian from delicious food, sweets and delicacies, to great Bollywood movies and more it pulled an international crowd that felt transported to the depths of India with its festive ambiance.
Very visible were dignitaries from the city including, Mayor Ali Sajjad Taj, Shaila Patankar, from the Artesia Chamber of Commerce and some formidable sponsors who contributed in making it a grandiose week.
