Several thousand residents of Los Angeles heeded the call from Community Coalition as they presented the 7th Annual South LA Power Fest. This event is the premier political music festival that organizers schedule once a year as a day of celebration, education and community empowerment.
Community Coalition works to help transform the social and economic conditions in South LA that foster addition, crime, violence and poverty by building institutions that involve thousands in creating, influencing and changing public policy.
Attendees enjoyed a day-long, family friendly festival with some amazing live music, food trucks, health and wellness resources, art and carnival attractions. This years festivities was held on The Peoples Lot, on the corner of Manchester Blvd. and Vermont Avenue.
The Empowerment Tent featured skits by “We the People”, Poetry reading by Get Lit Poets as well as interactive art presented by Barrio Mobile.
The Health Tent engaged audiences with Yoga by Tree South LA Yoga, Pilates by Sabria, Dance Workshop by Contra Tiempo.
The EMBRACE LA Tent launced by Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson, embRACE LA seeks to foster understanding, healing and growth throughout Los Angeles.
The crowd was entertained by DJ Sets by Queens of the New Age-Novena Carmel, Peezie and Moni Vargas, dance performance by Contra-Tiempo with musical performances by Earth Arrow, Aponte, Quetzal with special guests Jarochicanos from Chicago and Rapsody on the Main Stage.
The 7th Annual South LA Power Fest was successful on several fronts. It educated, engaged, empowered and entertained the community.
