The 2023 NOLLYWOOD IN HOLLYWOOD showcase will take place on September 22 and 23 at the Aero Theater, Santa Monica, and Norris Theater at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California.
The retrospective classic, THINGS FALL APART based on the book of the same title by the prolific author, Chinua Achebe will headline the event. The film was initially released in 1971.
“THINGS FALL APART was an easy choice,” says Nigerian-American filmmaker Ose Oyamendan who founded the event six years ago in partnership with two Hollywood cultural heavyweights, the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California, and the American Cinematheque.
“We feel it is important to show Hollywood and the world that Nigerian film dates back a long time ago, long before Nollywood. This is an opportunity for Angelenos to come out, enjoy free screenings, and discover Nigerian and African culture and stories.”
THINGS FALL APART will open the showcase with a red-carpet opening night at the Aero Theater on the evening of September 22. The event continues the next day at the Norris Theater on the campus of USC.
Nigeria’s best Film of the Year, THE TRADE by Jadesola Osiberu, and the Berlin International Film Festival Award winner, ALL THE COLORS OF THE WORLD ARE BETWEEN BLACK AND WHITE by Babatunde Opalowo are the other films in the showcase that includes networking events, panel discussions, a glamorous opening night party.
