Things have changed in the last version of President Joe Biden’s social services and environmental bill, adding a new paid family leave program, immigrant work permits, and a state-and-local tax break to it. 

The bill – which basically is a framework for Biden’s Build Back Better (BBB) agenda – was released on October 28 after weeks of back and forth. It includes $1.75 trillion of investments to extend health care coverage, combat climate change, alleviate child poverty, and other priorities set by the Democrats.

 Tucked inside the stopgap spending bill that cleared Congress Thursday night was $1.6 billion to help the Biden administration deal with the growing number of illegal immigrant kids jumping the southern border.

The cash didn’t get much attention, but its inclusion in the bill was an acknowledgment of the ongoing severity of the problem, which the administration at one point had labeled “seasonal” but which is now about to stretch into a second calendar year.

But the question is how did labor shortages happen on such a large scale?  The food supply chain has been depending on foreign-born workers for years. The unfriendly immigration policies have forced millions of workers to flee back. A large number of workers were deported, while millions of aspiring foreign workers were barred from entering the U.S.

Just in time for the holidays, the romantic comedy, “Coming to Africa,” written and directed by Anwar Jamison, is set to make its theatrical premiere in Ghana at two  of the country’s top theatres. Once upon a time, a group of refugees while escaping hostile environments at home headed west over the Atlantic Ocean with the hopes to find better life opportunities somewhere else. They reached America at a large piece of rock after going through a tough journey. 

Upon their arrival, the new land welcomed them with hunger and inadequate shelter along with other challenges. However, some Americans took pity on these poor refugees. They shared their land with them and helped them settle there.
