We are facing a very intense moment in immigration reform as concerns the guest worker program, family reunification, immigration enforcement, and security issues. Our immigration column brings you a break down of what the deliberations are in Congress and how you can participate in making a difference. We hope that this section will shed some light to the issues being deliberated upon and how they affect you. We all should recognize that as immigrants we bare the responsibility to shape our own legal destinies. The recent marches in Los Angeles and many other states have proven that unless we make our voices heard nobody will feel the pain of our fellow immigrant brothers and sisters and the children who right now are left in foster care and homeless while their parents are deported. There are lots of organizations all over the nation through which you can assist in preserving the dignities of our fellow immigrant families.
We have explored the stories of various immigrants who have been able to make their dreams come true against all odds. Through their stories we learn the power of passion, patience and most importantly persistence. Though our stories may be different it seems that our desires for success are as passionate and determined. We bring to you a variety of stories from different continents i.e. Mayor Jimmy Delshad, First Iranian-American mayor in the city of Beverly Hills, Catallina Popescu from Eastern Europe, Corrinne May from Asia, Chisenga Mulimine from East Africa, Hakeem Kae Kazim form West Africa. As immigrants we are challenged daily by the toils of a new land, language, culture than the average America. This is however no reason to give up. Whatever the apparent obstacle may be it is important to look to those who have made it against all odds. The success rate of immigrants continues to rise because of the drive, passion, creativivity, resilience and the determination to achieve the American Dream. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, immigrant entrepreneurs are the fastest-growing segment of small business owners today. Whether in education or business immigrants are faring just as well and in some cases even better. The reasons that bring us here in the first place are the spur to our success. We should not lose sight of the goal but use whatever be the challenge or obstacle, as a springboard for higher achievement. Never stop dreaming, and stand guard to the doors of negativity
In culture and society we as always bring you a wide array of events that bridge our communities. We hope that you explore the diversity next door to you and that you do find the time to attend and educate yourself about the people you work and live with.
We would also like to introduce you to our new segment about what is happening in the city. This we hope will enhance your life, as we believe that it is important to balance work and pleasure. We work to live and not the reverse.
Last but not least we encourage you to support the businesses support The Immigrant Magazine so that we can continue to grow this media whose vision is to assist you on your journey to achieving your life's purpose or dream. For those who already support us we are very grateful and continue to do our best in keeping immigrant pride, hopes and dreams alive. May-June,07
