Dreaming of You Ultimate Selena Tribute

Inglewood- Several hundred residents of Inglewood and surrounding communities celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with a free cultural festival in Inglewood.
The weather Gods allowed for another beautiful day in the City of Champions. A welcomed tropical breeze and bright sun made for an idea environment.
This annual celebration took place, Saturday, September 15, 2018, on the grounds of Crozier Middle School. National Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the tremendous contributions of Hispanic and Latino-Americans in the United States and celebrates the group’s heritage and culture and was formally recognized and established by an Act of Congress in 1988.

The festival in Inglewood was just one of many community events throughout the Greater Los Angeles area. The event was free and opened to the public. Various booths offered resources, health screenings and a variety of tasty cuisine. The festival also featured a classic car show, interactive and carnival style games, with face painting and arts and crafts that engaged the entire family.
Attendees enjoyed thrilling set of music performed by a variety of bands. This year’s music consisted of Mariachi, Boleros, Tejano and the infectious sounds of Salsa and Cumbia.

Radio Personality Community Service Director Josefa Salinas returned to serve as Mistress of Ceremonies, to provide a brief bios as an intro to each band before their crowd pleasing sets.

A previous engagement delayed my arrival to the venue this year. I missed the amazing vocal talents of Pedrito Fregoso, and the authentic Ballet Folklorico and Aztec Dancers provided superbly by Ballet Folklorico Macias.
I arrived in time to the catch the last couple of tunes of “Dreaming of You”-Ultimate Selena Tribute with The Reel Band.
Selena considered The Queen of Tejano, captivated audiences with her powerful vocal range and how she incorporated Cumbia dance into her music. Selena received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, November 3, 2017. Her start power continues to rise and shine brightly with tribute bands commemorating and honoring her legacy.

Los Angeles based The Reel Band is one of the most entertaining musical groups around. They are known to enlightened the stage with their presence and high energy bringing to the forefront the best of R&B, Hip-Hop, Latin, Cumbia, Salsa, Old School funk, Rock en Espanol and much more for any and all occasions. The band performed “Dreaming of You” Ultimate Selena Tribute with vocalist Rina Cervantes. Ms. Cervantes did justice to the music and legacy of Selena during her awe inspiring, captivating performance. There was a meet and greet after her set to sign autographs and pose for photos with a growing fan base. The Reel Band consists of Rina Cervantes-vocals, Alejandro Blanco-guitar, Klever Alvarado-bass, Izzy Santiago-keyboards, Joe Mendez-drums, and Phil Ruiz on percussions. Check out the enclosed set list as it bring back fond memories as you continued reading this recap. It is OK to sing along to the tunes as the spirit moves you. “Disco Medley,” “Baila Esta Cumbia,” “Techno Cumbia,” “I Could Fall in Love,” “No Me Queda Mas,” “Bidi bidi bom bom,” “Dreaming of You,” and “Como la Flor.”

The party atmosphere was cranked up a bit with the infectious, contagious set of Cumbia, as only La Sonora Dinamita can deliver. Dancers crowded unto the dance floor for their lively set of Cumbia. La Sonora Dinamita is a Colombian musical group that plays Cumbia, a South and Latin American musical genre popular throughout Latin America. As of the first Cumbia groups to reach international success, it is credited with helping to popularize the genre throughout Latin America and the World. The band continues to perform worldwide. The band had to rush off to another local gig immediately after their performance in Inglewood.
The Susie Hansen Latin Band played the best of Latin music during this gig. The band’s set consisted of Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue and a little bit of Cha, Cha, Cha to cap off another popular and successful City sponsored Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration in Inglewood.
