Manu Dibango, Afro-jazz & saxophone legend dies from coronavirus

The Immigrant Magazine, after suspecting it was fake news from close sources to music legend Manu Dibango, now confirms the legend and one of the  world’s most renowned saxophonist, died of  corona virus in Paris. The 86-year-old Cameroonian and one of the leaders in Afro modern Jazz and world music was best known for the 1972 hit ‘Soul Makossa’ which brought this genre of music to the global music community.

Fans all over the world have expressed gratitude for the gift of music that Manu brought to the world through an outpouring of condolences to his family and his band.

“When we talk about afro-beat and Afro modern jazz today and funk and soul in the US, it is thanks to the contributions of greats like Manu Dibango, Fela Kuti, Hugh Massakella, Miriam Makeba, that we today enjoy such great variety of music from African descent”, Charles Anchang, CEO of The Immigrant Magazine, world music enthusiast and big African music promoter .

One of his fans is quoted as saying, “a musician like Manu transcends only and is never dead because his soul and music live forever.
Grand Manu, Fela Kuti, Mariam Makeba and Hugh Massakella together in heaven will convert the sound of the winds to music.
Cameroon has lost one of the greatest ambassadors of culture and music. We remain grateful for the gift of his wonderful life as soul Makossa lives on!!! “

The world will certainly miss the “Grand Manu” on stage but his music will last forever.
