With the mid-terms fast approaching, a briefing recently hosted by EMS( Ethnic Media Servics) explored threats to the way elections are run in the US — not just who gets to vote, but how and whether the votes get counted. Discussions centered around gerrymandered maps that diminish the power of voters of color, laws that restrict access to the polls, efforts by partisan poll workers to interfere in the election process, among other dangerous trends, and efforts to address them, including two lawsuits by civil rights groups in Alabama and Louisiana being argued before the Supreme Court on Oct. 4.

Disaggregating Asian Americans and Pacific Americans (AAPI) Health Data –Key to Combating Health Disparities
Recent research, including studies led by Stanford faculty, has found that people with roots in China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, India, the Philippines, and the Pacific Islands among other countries have widely divergent risk profiles and often very different responses to common medications. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the lack of disaggregated AAPI data made it impossible to identify which AAPI groups had the highest infection and lowest vaccination rates.
