A GUIDE FOR NEW IMMIGRANTS IN AMERICA

The Immigrant Experience : Tales of the Transitions of Successful Immigrants

Mexican Diva Gloria Santa Cruz in Hollywood

Dear Readers of The Immigrant Magazine,

Hello, my name is Gloria Santa Cruz and I was born in the town of Dinamita, Durango, Mexico. I came to the United States 20 years ago with all the hopes and dreams of an American immigrant. After many years of working prosperously in Mexico in my desired field of entertainment in the areas of radio, television, theater and movies I decided to come to America with a passport and an actor's visa to pursue and continue my career. I realized it was not easy because I needed to start all over again.
I began by dubbing voices for a firm that had offices in Burbank and in Hollywood. Dubbing voices is when we convert a show from English to Spanish for the Spanish speaking audience. I've done stars such as Raquel Welch, Shirley McClaine, Katherine Hepburn and I did a series called Candid Camera. My latest work was for CBS for the Bold and Beautiful soap opera. I did Darlene Conley's voice for six years, who was Sally Spectra on the program. She unfortunately passed away at the end of 2006.
It has taken me ten years to become an American citizen. I will never forget that beautiful day when I raised my arm and said I do. I felt very proud of my new country. I would like to now tell you about all of my later experiences and achievements with radio networks. My first station was with Radio TODO with my show, Super Gloria. After that I began to work with Radio KSK on the morning show, which lasted six years; then with Radio Alegria for my show Gloria and You; and then with Radio Unica, which, is a program called Shalom Los Angeles.
Currently I have my own T.V. program based on my past radio show Gloria and You, which airs every Friday night at 10:00 pm on Time Warner's cable Channel 24.
During the twenty years of my stay here I have also done many commercials for radio and television for which I have been recognized with many awards including the Palms of Gold for my writing of Time to Be a Man No Time to Dream, based on a story about my father's life and times. Other accolades have been received from the Los Angeles Chapter of the Chamber of Commerce for excellence in citizenship involving the public while employed with Radio KSKQ and from the San Fernando Valley Chamber of Commerce for my communication skills.
I have been blessed with my artistic life in the United States and of course the completion of my citizenship. And I would like to say anything is possible in America where your dreams can come true with hard work. If you really want to be a part of the American Dream, you too can do it. I hope to write many interesting articles to help you reach your own personal goals and entertain you on your own quest.

God bless you and I will write again soon.
Your friend, GLORIA SANTA CRUZ
